About Us

We are a Charlotte, North Carolina-based, 501(c)3 non-profit organization that resettles refugees, reunites separated families and rebuilds lives through our trained Neighbor Teams that we support and send locally and abroad.

Loving our global neighbor as our own.

Our Work

Resettling Refugees.
Reuniting Families.
Rebuilding Lives.

  • We educate, train, and equip Neighbor Teams, consisting of 5-10 volunteers, from local churches and local communities to effectively welcome, resettle, and support vulnerable refugees as they arrive to rebuild their lives.

  • We resettle refugees by matching our Neighbor Teams with waiting refugees overseas, welcoming them at the airport, then supporting them as they rebuild their lives in our community,  finally empowering them to thrive independently as our new neighbors.

  • We work alongside leaders in the community and other NGOs to collaboratively foster an environment that will lead to the successful welcoming of refugees with holistic care.

  • We send NTN International Teams to refugee camps to serve, learn, and care for the most vulnerable.

  • We work to reunite separated refugee families in our community.

About the Founders

Chris and Kendall Phillips live in Charlotte, NC with their four sons. Their lives, stories, and lived experiences have led them to start Neighbor the Nations and refer to it with joy as their life calling. Chris has a degree in International Culture Studies and Kendall has a Masters Degree in Human Service Counseling, Crisis and Trauma. After college and getting married, they worked for a non-governmental organization and lived in the Middle East from 2015 to 2019. In 2017, they were in Turkey when Syria’s civil war began to ramp up. Seeing the waves of Syrian refugees fleeing for safety broke their hearts. As the number of vulnerable refugees continued to rise past the 30 million mark, they read Jesus’ words in Matthew 25 where Jesus’ followers asked him, “ When did we see you as a foreigner and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?’ Jesus replied, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for the least of one of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'”

From this moment, Chris and Kendall knew they were called to serve Jesus by welcoming in and helping the displaced rebuild their lives with love and support. Since then, Chris has gained experience working in refugee resettlement. In 2023, they relocated their family of six to Charlotte, NC, to be the home base for NTN. They chose Charlotte because it is one of the top refugee resettlement cities, rapidly growing in its strategic nature and opportunities available to help refugees successfully rebuild their lives. Now, in 2024, they begin to serve through NTN and write the rest of the story.
